BMW HAMANN probably faster than M3

The new BMW HAMANN gives the BMW M3 wings in the truest sense of the word: The HAMANN Laguna Seca II with gull wing doors and 6.1 liter V12 engine is based on the top-of-the line model of the E 46 range. The 480 hp / 353 kW HAMANN power plant makes the silver rocket 312 km/h fast. The spectacular coupe made by HAMANN makes its world debut at the IAA 2001 in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. Seca II catapults from 0 - 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds only, passes the 200 km/h mark after 13.8 seconds and is 312 km/h fast.

Its name is its motto: With the study HAMANN POLE POSITION, tuner Hamann Motorsport demonstrates the creativity and technical competence of the worldwide renowned tuner for the next millenium.
The saloon painted in the special colour Conti-Yellow was constructed based on the E 46 model range and is powered by a M3 six-cylinder four-valve engine enlarged to 3.4 litre capacity. Beside the capacity enlargement, the Hamann engine experts made many more modifications on the engine: In the engine compartment you can immediately identify the Hamann Airbox made from Carbon/Kevlar. With its RAM-effect derived from motor racing and its larger induction pipes it has a very important share on the performance tuning. In addition, the engine is upgraded with a special exhaust manifold and specially recalibrated elecronic control units for Motronic and VANOS.
Specially for the HAMANN POLE POSITION concept car there had to be manufactured a specially tuned high performance exhaust system and many special components to fit the engine into the nose of the current ‘3. The power output is really spectacular: The 3.4 litre engine performs 370 hp / 272 kW at 7550 rpm and produces 420 Nm of maximum torque at 3500 revs. Power transmission to the rear wheels is made via a six-speed manual gearbox from the M3 and a reinforced rear axle differential with 40 per cent locking rate. Doped this way, the HAMANN POLE POSITION study catapults itself in 4.7 seconds from 0 - 100 km/h and is 285 plus km/h fast.
But the prototype doesn’t only set new standards regarding its road performances: With the HAMANN POLE POSITION concept car, a new, ultra-sporty Hamann Motorsport aerodynamics-kit, which will be available soon for all BMW E 46, is introduced. The new front spoiler bumper with large vents for coolers and front brakes doesn’t only have eyecatching function: The front spoiler, which can be upgraded with additional Carbon lips, reduces the lift at the front axle towards zero and the design with the round fog lights also improves the car’s overtaking image.
Downforce at the rear axle is produced using a roof spoiler, a large, double rear wing and the new rear bumper with integrated Carbon diffusor. The add-on, sporty rounded fender flarings front and rear make the HAMANN POLE POSITION study 186 centimeters wide and give room to extremely big wheels.
To reach maximum possible traction, the wide body version is equipped with modular Hamann Motorsport PG 2 light alloy wheels in 11Jx18 rear and ContiSportContact tyres in 275/30 ZR 19 format. To transfer the steering and braking forces, there are mounted 9-inch wide wheels with 245/35 ZR 19 tyres on the front axle. The asymmetrical tyre pattern of the Continental high performance tyre can be found again on the bodywork of the HAMANN POLE POSITION concept car.
Between the flarings there are integrated sporty styled side skirts. In addition, the yellow rocket is equipped with sports side mirrors and headlight covers. The exciting racing look is complemented with a very sporty handling. Hamann Motorsport developed a height-adjustable sports suspension which lowers the car by 40 millimeters. The chassis package additionally contains adjustable anti-roll bars, a front strut brace and a high performance brake system with 320 mm large, ventilated and perforated discs and four-pot calipers.
The cockpit of the HAMANN POLE POSITION study equally meets aesthetic and functional demands: Seats and door panels are upholstered in a yellow-black leather combination. The same game of colours can be found again on panels at the dashboard and door panels. The sports seats care for optimal lateral seat support, the ergonomically shaped Hamann airbag-sports-steering-wheel provides a safe and relaxed position of the driver’s hands. Gearshift lever knob and pedals made from aluminium give the interior a race-like touch. The HAMANN POLE POSITION concept car is a ready-to-drive study with outstanding road performances and handling. Many options like the aerodynamics parts, the wheels and many more are available for all BMW ‘3 of the E 46 model range.

6.1 V12, 331,2 kW / 450 hp, 311 km/h: Hamann Motorsport introduces the Hamann Motorsport HM5/450 V12 based on the BMW '5 model range. The high performance automobile manufactured in small series is available from 245 000 DM in saloon or station wagon version. The Hamann Motorsport 6.1 engine is based on the BMW V12 engine. The cubic capacity is extended to 6.1 litres with the help of a special crankshaft and bigger pistons. In addition, the cylinder-heads are machined, sports camshafts and a special exhaust manifold are assembled. For the installation of the V12 into the engine compartment of the BMW '5 numerous parts such as the high performance exhaust system and assembly brackets had to be designed recently. The sporting demand is emphasized further on with the six speed manual gearbox with sports clutch and a special rear axle differential with 40 per cents locking.
The road performances reach thoroughbred sports car level: The sprint from 0 - 100 km/h takes 4,7 seconds only, the maximum speed is 311 km/h with a specially adapted transmission-ratio. To be able to control the excellent road performances, Hamann Motorsport fit out the HM5/450 V12 with a bigger brake system, sports suspension and 19 inch tires.
The three-piece Hamann Motorsport PG 2 rims are assembled in 9Jx19 front and 11Jx19 rear. For the tires, they chose the dimensions 245/35 ZR 19 front and 275/30 ZR 19 on the rear axle. The tuning of the sports suspension can be individually adapted from very comfortably to extremely sporty according to the demands of the customer. To reduce the side tilt of the car further on, there are installed stronger anti-roll bars. Active driving safety however isn't only optimized by the colossal engine performance and the modified suspension: The high speeds of the HM 5/450 V12 require an optimal aerodynamic balance. Therefore Hamann Motorsport fits out the sedan with a sporty-elegant aerodynamics-kit, which is available for all standard '5 cars as well as many other parts of this car.
The Hamann front spoiler bumper, which can be easily exchanged against the stock front skirt, doesn’t only give the ‘5 an even more striking face but also minimizes the lift at the front axle. For a further improvement of driving stability, the Hamann front fascia can be equipped with an additional Carbon lip.
From aside, the saloon looks lower and more stretched with the fitting of the Hamann side panels. To reach an excellent aerodynamic balance, Hamann Motorsport provides a roof spoiler, a rear wing in two different versions and a new, complete rear bumper. The Hamann rear apron doesn’t only have an integrated, Carbon-made diffusor but cutouts for the Hamann four-pipe high performance exhaust system, too. For the interior of the car, the client has the choice between the different BMW ex-works interiors and exclusive full leather trims from Hamann Motorsport. The tuner also offers accessories like aluminum pedals and gear-shift-lever-knobs or wooden panels in noble walnut wood or bird-eye maple.
The Hamann Motorsport HM5/450 V12 is offered as a complete car. Alternatively it is possible to convert any current BMW '5.

Source of power is the motor from the current M3, whose power has been increased from standard 321 hp / 236,2 kW to 350 hp / 257,6 kW with some modifications. The 3201 ccm engine is upgraded with a special exhaust manifold and new mappings for the electronic-control-units for Motronic and VANOS. Inside the engine compartment, the new air-collector made from Carbon/Kevlar causes a sensation. This new piece has a big share on the higher power output of the engine due to its airbox-effect similar to Formula 1. In addition there especially had to be developed an aspecially tuned high performance exhaust system and many special parts to make the engine fit into the front section of the compact. Power transmission is done by a six-speed manual gearbox taken from the new M3 and by a stronger rear axle differential with 40 per cent locking rate. So the Hamann Motorsport HM 3.2/350 catapults itself in 4,8 seconds from 0 - 100 km/h and is 289 km/h fast. These performances call for far-reaching modifications on the aerodynamics which are made by the tuner with the Hamann Motorsport Competition wide body conversion. The new frontskirt with additional spoiler-lip doesn't only reduce the lift on the front axle against zero: The new design with round fog-lights and the ventilation-scoops for the front brakes improve overtaking image by far.
Downforce on the rear axle is achieved with the big, adjustable rear wing with extendable Gurney-flap and the new rear-skirt with diffusor. The bolt-on, sportily swinging fender flarings front and rear make the Hamann Motorsport runabout 184 centimeters wide and give space to extremely wide wheels. To achieve maximum possible traction, the compact car is equipped with three-piece Hamann Motorsport Pegasus light alloy rims of the dimensions 12Jx18 and Yokohama tires in the format 285/35 ZR 18 on the rear axle. For the transfer of the steering and braking forces onto the front suspension there are mounted nine inch wide wheels with 245/40 ZR 18 tires. In addition the Hamann Motorsport HM 3.2/350 is equipped with a Carbon- bonnet, sports-side-mirrors and an underbody cover.
The racing look should be accompanied by a sporty handling. Hamann Motorsport fur-nishes the two-door car with a height-adjustable sports suspension, which lowers the bolide by 40 millimeters. Depending on the client's options the shock absorber tuning can be chosen between sportily comfortably and race-like hard. The suspension package additionally includes adjustable torsion bars, front strut brace and a high performance brake system with 330 mm large, ventilated discs and multi-pistons calipers. For the interior there are optionally available luxurious full leather appointments or a racing-light- weight cockpit. The Hamann Motorsport HM 3.2/350 is hand-built on special request. The price range is starting from 140 000 DM.
